Medical Foundation
The Science Behind The Treatment
The skin is thoroughly cleansed and steam is applied for 5–10 minutes to dilate pores. The patient lies supine on a treatment bed. Under magnification lighting, each comedone is individually assessed. Closed comedones (whiteheads, milia) are nicked with a sterile lancet tip to open the pore. The comedone extractor is then applied with precise, even pressure at the base of the lesion (not the top) to express the contents without rupturing surrounding tissue. Each extracted lesion is immediately swabbed with a salicylic acid-soaked cotton. Inflamed pustules and cysts are NOT extracted — these require injection-based treatment (intralesional triamcinolone) to avoid scarring. After completion of all extractions, blue LED is applied for 10 minutes to sterilise the cleared pores. A calming, anti-bacterial mask is applied.

Pre-Treatment Steps
- • Avoid active retinoids and harsh exfoliants 3 days prior
- • Inform doctor of any active cold sores or medication
- • Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin
Post-Treatment Guidelines
- • The skin may appear red with small marks at extraction points for 24–48 hours — this is completely normal.
- • Do not touch or rub the extraction areas.
- • Apply prescribed calming/anti-bacterial cream and gentle SPF 50+ for 3 days.
- • Avoid makeup for 12 hours post-extraction.
- • Do not steam or apply hot water to the face for 24 hours — pores need time to contract.
- • Continue prescribed topical retinoid or BHA in your night routine to prevent rapid re-clogging.
- • Dietary discipline in the 48 hours post-extraction: avoid dairy and high-sugar foods which can trigger new sebaceous activity.
