The Science Behind The Treatment
The skin is thoroughly cleansed of all makeup, SPF, and skincare products. A topical anaesthetic cream may be applied 20–30 minutes prior for sensitive patients, though most patients tolerate Q-switch laser without numbing. Safety goggles are worn by both the patient and the clinician throughout the procedure. The laser handpiece is held perpendicular to the skin and multiple rapid pulses are delivered in a systematic grid pattern across the treatment area. Each pulse is felt as a mild snap or rubber-band flick. For the Hollywood Carbon Peel variant, a thin layer of medical-grade carbon suspension is first applied and dried for 10 minutes, then treated with the Q-switch laser passes. The carbon absorbs the laser energy and microexfoliates the skin simultaneously. Total treatment duration: 20–30 minutes. Mild redness persisting 2–4 hours post-treatment is normal.

Pre-Treatment Steps
- • Avoid active retinoids and harsh exfoliants 3 days prior
- • Inform doctor of any active cold sores or medication
- • Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin
Post-Treatment Guidelines
- • Apply prescribed post-laser soothing cream (aloe vera gel or ceramide moisturiser) immediately after treatment.
- • Avoid direct sun exposure for 48 hours — stay indoors or wear a broad-brimmed hat outdoors.
- • Apply SPF 50+ PA++++ sunscreen every 2 hours from the next morning onwards — this is non-negotiable.
- • Do not exfoliate (scrub, peel, or AHA/BHA products) for 5 days post-laser.
- • Avoid swimming, steam rooms, saunas, and excessive sweating for 48 hours.
- • Do not pick or peel any darkening or flaking skin — allow natural shedding over 5–7 days.
- • Continue prescribed depigmenting serum (if prescribed) after 5 days of healing.
