Acne & Sebum Control

Break the cycle. Permanently.

Acne at Krisara Skin Clinic is not treated as just a skin problem — it is recognised as a systemic, multi-factorial condition rooted in hormonal dysregulation, dietary triggers, gut microbiome imbalance, and skin barrier compromise. Our comprehensive protocol begins with a dietary trigger audit and hormonal assessment (PCOS, thyroid, androgens), followed by a staged treatment approach: prescription management, medical peels, blue light therapy, clinical extraction, and laser treatments. The goal is permanent remission and sebum regulation — not temporary suppression that leaves patients dependent on medication indefinitely.

Clinical Philosophy

Acne as a Biological Signal, Not a Surface Problem

At Krisara, we have a firm conviction: treating acne only on the skin surface is like treating a fever with an ice pack. You might cool the symptom temporarily, but the underlying fire continues. Acne is a systemic signal — a message that something inside the body (hormones, insulin, gut bacteria, inflammation) is out of balance, and the skin is the visible result of that imbalance. Our approach begins with a detailed consultation that maps the patient's acne pattern (comedonal, papulopustular, nodulocystic), distribution (T-zone, jaw, back), menstrual cycle relationship (for women), dietary triggers, stress patterns, and skincare routine. We then design a protocol that addresses the root cause first: dietary intervention (low-glycaemic diet, dairy reduction), hormonal management (anti-androgens, oral contraceptives when appropriate, spironolactone), gut microbiome support, and prescription topicals (retinoids, azelaic acid, adapalene, benzoyl peroxide). Only once the systemic environment is stabilised do we layer in clinical procedures: medical peels, blue light therapy, and Q-switch laser. This staged approach ensures that clinical results are durable — patients achieve real remission, not a return of acne the moment medication is stopped.

Common Questions

Everything you need to know

Why does my acne keep coming back even after treatment?+

Recurring acne means the root cause has not been addressed. Most treatments (antibiotics, face washes, OTC creams) suppress active bacteria without correcting the underlying hormonal, dietary, or skin barrier issues. At Krisara, we identify the exact mechanism driving your acne — whether it is androgenic (DHT), insulin-driven (high sugar/dairy diet), gut-microbiome related, or stress-cortisol triggered — and build a protocol that addresses it at source.

Is diet really linked to acne?+

Yes, strongly. High-glycaemic foods (white rice, refined sugar, maida, white bread) spike insulin, which stimulates IGF-1, which increases sebum production and follicular keratinisation. Dairy contains whey protein and hormones (IGF-1, estrogens from pregnant cows) that directly stimulate acne pathways. Our dietary acne protocol has produced dramatic results in patients who have failed conventional treatment — often because their acne was predominantly diet-driven.

Is isotretinoin (Accutane/Acnederm) safe?+

Isotretinoin is the most effective acne treatment ever developed — it produces permanent remission in 85% of patients after a full course. It is a teratogen (causes birth defects) and requires strict contraception in women. At Krisara, we prescribe isotretinoin with full blood panel monitoring (liver function, lipids) every 4–6 weeks and provide comprehensive patient education and support throughout the course. It is very safe when managed correctly by a trained dermatologist.

How effective is blue light therapy for acne?+

Blue light (415nm) is selectively absorbed by porphyrins produced by Cutibacterium acnes (the acne bacterium). When absorbed, the porphyrins produce reactive oxygen species that destroy the bacterial cell wall from within. Multiple studies confirm 64–80% reduction in inflammatory lesion count after 4–8 weeks of twice-weekly blue light sessions. It is an excellent complement to topical therapy for mild-to-moderate acne and completely painless.

Can acne be treated on the back and chest?+

Yes. Truncal acne (back and chest acne) is treated using a combination of systemic therapy (isotretinoin or oral antibiotics when indicated), body peels (salicylic acid body peel), blue light therapy, and prescribed medicated body washes. Body acne responds well to the same approach as facial acne with appropriate adjustments.
