Medical Foundation
The Science Behind The Treatment
Each ice-pick scar is individually identified and marked. Topical anaesthetic is applied to the treatment area for 30 minutes. The TCA 100% solution is carefully dipped onto the very tip of a fine-pointed wooden applicator and applied directly inside the scar — not on the surrounding skin. A white frost (protein coagulation) appears immediately within the scar tract. If the frost is not complete, a second application may be made. The surrounding normal skin must not be exposed to the TCA. After the procedure, the patient feels a brief stinging sensation that settles in 30–60 seconds. The frosted scars develop dark scabs over 24–48 hours, which shed naturally over 7–10 days. New collagen fills the scar from the base over the following 4–6 weeks.

Pre-Treatment Steps
- • Avoid active retinoids and harsh exfoliants 3 days prior
- • Inform doctor of any active cold sores or medication
- • Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin
Post-Treatment Guidelines
- • Dark scabs will form on each treated scar within 24–48 hours — do not pick them.
- • Allow the scabs to shed naturally over 7–10 days — premature removal disrupts healing.
- • Apply prescribed healing ointment (Aquaphor/Vaseline) to each scab twice daily.
- • Avoid direct sun exposure on the treated areas for 3 weeks.
- • Apply SPF 50+ from day 10 (after scabs have shed) to prevent PIH on the healing scar tissue.
- • Do not apply acid-based skincare (retinoid, AHA) until all scabs have completely shed.
- • Photograph treated scars at each session to track progress.
